La Bastide has several living areas, inside and out. The 80m2 main living room of this luxury Provencal villa is contemporary and comfortable. With French windows opening towards the valley and a stable style door opening onto the back terrace it is a cool retreat in summer where the high ceilings, cool breeze and natural light encourage peaceful reading and contemplation. In winter the huge roaring fire envelops you in warmth and wellbeing, a perfect place for seasonal family gatherings. Within the living room there are several separate seating areas, and a variety of entertainment and technology options for you to enjoy:
The outdoors is a big part of life at La Bastide, and we work hard to maintain the gardens for year-round enjoyment. Rejuvenate your senses, and rediscover nature and the simple life at this beautiful Provençal villa.
The many terraces and hidden corners provide ample opportunities for privacy as well as for more communal activities. There are large manicured lawns in front of the house and around the pool terrace - perfect for lawn games. Below the 17th century 'Pigeonnier' (stone tower) and around the grounds are paths that meander through the olive terraces and fruit trees, encouraging you to stroll around and discover the property. A croquet lawn, boules court and trampoline are all within the property. Behind the house is a barbeque, seating and dining area with superb views towards Montauroux and Callian. Close to the main kitchen, it is a wonderful place to enjoy long lunches and balmy evenings; and on colder evenings, a firepit keeps things cosy.
The dining and kitchen areas are large and open plan, actively encouraging food preparation to become a fun, communal activity. In this setting, the natural combination of food and friends flows effortlessly, and cooking becomes a pleasure.
The large and well laid out kitchen is designed for communal cooking, and is superbly equipped with a full range of cooking appliances.
The dining room has an extra-large oak dining table and high backed chairs to comfortably seat 10 adults.
The French doors open from the dining room directly on to the front terrace for alfresco dining on the huge South facing terrace. When the sun is shining, lunch can be eaten outdoors all year round! When it is chilly, an outdoor fire pit or the indoor wood-burning stove provide warmth and atmosphere.
There are 3 separate dining terraces totalling over 250m2. The table on each terrace is able to comfortably seat at least 10 people.
The huge, south facing terrace under the shade of the massive oak tree is the go-to place for lazy breakfasts, with fantastic views over the hills and hilltop towns and within easy view of the pool terrace.
The table to seat 12+ people is made for outside dining and the comfortable outdoor seating and magnificent sunset views make this terrace the natural gathering place for evening aperitifs. Off season, as long as the sun is shining, the terrace is warm enough for alfresco dining, but on chilly evenings, a fire pit warms things up nicely.
The front porch is a marvelous, sheltered spot that is a little away from the main terrace and is particularly suited to a quiet "tête à tête" in the shade.
A partly paved, partly landscaped terrace with a built in 4 burner gas barbeque is just outside the back door. With bistro style tables in the shade of the oak tree, and a large circular table that can seat up to 18 people, this is an ideal area for leisurely lunches or evening entertaining.
You can easily spend all day and evening on the shaded pool terrace as it is perfectly appointed for long lazy summer days. The fully equipped summer kitchen has a huge US style fridge freezer; 2 sinks; dishwasher; 6 burner barbeque; hob and oven; kitchen equipment; crockery and cutlery, and is adjacent to the 12 person dining table and a large seating area.
Under the main terrace, there is a secluded, fully shaded loggia with comfortable garden chairs and hammock. It's a lovely quiet spot for reading, well away from other distractions.
The fabulous oak tree that is the centerpiece of the house provides beautifully dappled shade throughout the day, and there is always a welcome breeze on the graveled Garden Terrace. Recliner chairs are placed to enjoy the view and keep an eye on the pool area, whilst the huge hammock is wonderfully comfortable for gentle snoozing.
A café style table and chairs are available outside each suite for morning coffees, evening cocktails or peaceful solitude.
No villa rental in France would be complete without its own wine cellar – La Bastide boasts 2!
The Pigeonnier cave stores a carefully selected range of quality wines, including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and selected local and Provençal wines. These are all available to guests at very reasonable prices.
The cave in the main villa has La Bastide 'house wine' for everyday consumption (rose, white and red).
La Bastide also produces its own olive oil, harvested and milled every year.
