The outdoors is a big part of life at La Bastide, and we work hard to maintain the gardens for year-round enjoyment. Rejuvenate your senses, and rediscover nature and the simple life at this beautiful Provençal villa.
Aside from the luxurious communal areas, the many terraces and hidden corners provide opportunities for privacy. Expansive lawns around the house and pool terrace are perfect for lawn games. Below the 17th century 'Pigeonnier' (stone tower) you’ll find a croquet lawn and floodlit boules court, and around the grounds are paths that meander through the olive terraces and fruit trees, encouraging you discover the property. Overlooking the hilltop villages of Montauroux and Callian is a terrace with barbeque, seating and dining area and sunset viewpoint. Close to the main kitchen, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy long lunches and balmy evenings; and on colder evenings, a firepit keeps things cosy.
The dining room is open plan with the kitchen and seats up to 10 adults
French doors open from the dining room directly on to the south facing front terrace for alfresco dining. When the sun is shining, lunch can be eaten outdoors all year round! When it is chilly, the indoor wood-burning stove provides warmth and atmosphere.
The large airy living room has several separate areas for relaxing and reading. In the summer doors can be opened front and back, whilst in the winter the huge log burning fire is cosy and welcoming.
The huge South facing terrace is shaded by the oak tree, with lovely views over the valley.
A partly paved, partly landscaped terrace with a built in 6 burner gas barbeque is just outside the back door. With an elevated Sunset Terrace and a large dining table in the shade of the oak tree, there is also an option for an even larger circular table seating up to 18 people. An ideal area for leisurely lunches, evening entertaining or sundowners.
The shaded pool terrace is perfectly appointed for long lazy summer days and evenings. The fully equipped summer kitchen has a huge US style fridge freezer; 2 sinks; dishwasher; 6 burner barbeque; hob and oven; kitchen equipment; crockery and cutlery, and is adjacent to the 12 person dining table and a large seating area. The wood burning stone pizza oven behind the summer kitchen provides a fun option.
Under the main terrace, there is a secluded, fully shaded loggia with comfortable chairs and hammocks. It's a lovely quiet spot for reading but also has a large screen TV and a drinks fridge for viewing live summer sports.
The fabulous oak tree that is the centrepiece of the house provides beautifully dappled shade throughout the day, and there is always a welcome breeze on the gravelled Garden Terrace. Recliner chairs are placed to enjoy the view and keep an eye on the pool area, whilst the huge hammock is wonderfully comfortable for gentle snoozing.
A café style table and chairs are available outside each suite for morning coffees, evening cocktails or peaceful solitude.
No villa rental in France would be complete without its own wine cellar – La Bastide boasts 2!
The Pigeonnier cave stores a carefully selected range of quality wines, including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and selected local and Provençal wines. These are all available to guests at very reasonable prices.
The cave in the main villa has La Bastide 'house wine' for everyday consumption (rose, white and red).
La Bastide also produces its own olive oil, harvested and milled every year.
